Melbourne (FN), Mar. 3 – Regarding the drug issue, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet asked the civil servants and the armed forces, who are the servants of the citizens, that if they are not clean, what can the citizens expect?
The premier spoke on Sunday (Mar. 3) during his meeting with Cambodians in Australia and New Zealand.
"I announced zero-tolerance for any civil servant to be found involved in drugs and that they will be expelled from the workplace regardless of the rank or status. When I was the commander of the Royal Army, I introduced the zero-tolerance policy at the military academy. Suppose the civil servants and law enforcers themselves are not clean. What can we expect?" the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet mentioned that the drug issue is prevalent in every country, including those with strict laws that severely punish traffickers, and even in countries where execution is a penalty for drug-related offenses. Even the superpowers, which allocate millions of dollars annually, struggle with this problem.
On the occasion, the premier also recalled the strict measures against civil servants and drug-related forces to be expelled from the workplaces. Samdech signed a decision to test drugs for civil servants in the armed forces at national and sub-national levels. In case any officer is found using drugs, he will be expelled from the workplace. The policy was applied with the forces at the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Interior.
Premier Hun Manet also reaffirmed his continued decision not to allow marijuana cultivation in Cambodia. Samdech Thipadei announced that as long as he remains in office, he will strongly oppose any initiatives to legalize marijuana cultivation in the country.
