Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 21 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet marked 2024 a year of fundamental reform, particularly in the administrative and labour systems. If successful, these reforms would lay a solid foundation for the years ahead.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Feb. 21) at the 2023 annual meeting of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) at the Ministry.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "Our economic policy from six months ago now necessitates a shift towards economic diplomacy. I have observed that leaders of other countries are also engaged in similar economic diplomacy efforts. Wherever they go, they engage with the private sector.”

“While the Royal Government can only initiate discussions, the private sector will do the rest. We need to invite them to engage with us and observe their competitive strategies. Therefore, the private sector, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), serves as the engine of our economy. It is crucial to highlight their role. It is not just important; it is paramount to align both formal and informal economies for collective progress. This synergy forms the bedrock of our economic development.”

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet continued, "In this mandate, if we undertake it effectively, we can establish the groundwork for the next 20 years, given our 25-year Pentagon Strategy. Therefore, I believe this year serves as a foundational period to construct and refine all our bases, encompassing public administration, structural reforms, and more. While this year is only part of a five-year plan, its significance extends beyond 2024 to ensure sustained progress.”

“By laying a robust foundation over the next 20 years, we secure another two decades of growth. Just as the longest buildings rely on solid underground foundations, our future prosperity hinges on the strength of our current endeavours,” the premier added.
