Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 19 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet clarified that the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Phnom Penh authorities have no intentions to impose restrictions on family sizes, particularly for residents of Phnom Penh. Moreover, the Royal Government of Cambodia does not intend to prohibit individuals from purchasing vehicles.
The premier spoke on Monday (Feb. 19) during a groundbreaking ceremony for Chak Angrae Krom Bridge, Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that neither the Royal Government nor the Phnom Penh Municipal Authority has plans to enforce limitations on the number of children families can have, suggesting that having five children per family is a preferable option for those residing in Phnom Penh. The premier noted that the average number of children per family in Cambodia stands at only one and a half.
Samdech Thipadei continued, "The Royal Government of Cambodia has no intention to prohibit individuals from purchasing vehicles such as motorcycles, bicycles, cars, or other forms of transportation. In fact, I have spoken with residents in villages and districts, acknowledging that rising rice prices may lead them to consider buying more cars and motorcycles for their families."
On the occasion, the premier added that addressing the traffic issues in Phnom Penh is a priority, with ongoing efforts initiated by Samdech Techo Hun Sen. These initiatives require continuous study and implementation to alleviate the city's traffic congestion.
