Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that a country with skilled human resources significantly enhance competitiveness and stimulate the national economy, enabling Cambodia to transcend its post-war challenges and emerge victorious on both regional and global fronts. By offering opportunities and implementing appropriate policies, Cambodian youth possess the potential to excel on the international stage.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Feb. 15) during an inauguration of the National University of Management II and a graduation of more than 5,000 students.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, "The quality, qualifications, knowledge, adaptability, and competitiveness of a nation depend on the strength of its human capital. By enhancing our human resources and promoting health and capabilities among our people, we can elevate our competitiveness."
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that Cambodia's commitment to a free-market regime and global integration, it is important to be competing on equal terms. To achieve equitable competition, Cambodia must develop human resources capable of bolstering the national economy and competing effectively on the global stage.
The premier added, "From national leadership to grassroots levels, competition in human resources across all sectors has never been more accessible."
Samdech Thipadei also reminded that despite Cambodia's status as a country once boasting advanced economies in the 1960s and 1970s, the civil war upheaval hindered its development trajectory. The Khmer Rouge regime's atrocities resulted in a severe depletion of intellectuals. Despite facing economic sanctions, the Royal Government of Cambodia diligently rebuilt the nation by prioritizing human resource development to enhance competitiveness.
Samdech Thipadei continued, high-quality and healthy human capital are strong assets for the nation. A country endowed with such robust human capital will significantly enhance its competitiveness.
Samdech Thipadei continued, “As a nation recovering from a prolonged war, Cambodia has the potential to compete and achieve victories regionally and globally. With the right opportunities, direction, and policies, we can compete on the international stage.”
Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored that 19 years ago, Cambodia ranked among the world’s ten fastest-growing economies, achieving a growth rate exceeding 7 per cent annually. This serves as an example that Cambodia can narrow the economic gap with other nations, especially given the opportunity stemming from peace.
Samdech Thipadei added that peace enables Cambodia to develop physical infrastructure and cultivate human resources, allowing the nation to grow and compete globally. Cambodian students, private sector companies, and organizations now compete successfully at regional and global levels, showcasing the nation’s capabilities.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also underlined that improving people’s lives is a key goal of the Royal Government. The educational objective revolves around the “quadrangle,” aiming to nurture citizens who are socially responsible, possess knowledge and skills, understand their surroundings, make informed decisions, and develop both hard and soft skills.
It should be noted that the seventh-mandate Royal Government has introduced Pentagon Strategy-Phase I, with a primary focus on developing human capital as an essential condition for fostering economic diversification, growth, and social development. The goal is to create a nation that is environmentally friendly and resilient.
