Bangkok (FN), Feb. 7 – Thai President of the National Assembly (NA) and Speaker of the House of Representatives Wanmuhamadnoor Matha said that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet became the first foreign leader to visit Thailand during the new mandate of the Thai government. The president of the National Assembly expressed high expectations that Cambodia-Thailand relations will improve after this official visit.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met Thai NA President Wanmuhamadnoor Matha on Wednesday (Feb. 7) during Samdech Thipadei's official visit to Thailand.

The Thai side welcomed Samdech Thipadei's official visit and congratulated him on his appointment as Cambodian prime minister. President  Wanmuhamadnoor Matha highly appreciated this official visit because Samdech Thipadei was the first foreign leader to pay an official visit to Thailand after Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin took office.

The president expressed his satisfaction with the good relations and cooperation in all sectors between the two kingdoms. He also hoped that relations between the two countries would be further strengthened and expanded after this official visit.

For his part, Premier Hun Manet thanked for the warm welcome. Samdech Thipadei also briefed the outcomes of the bilateral talks with Premier Srettha Thavisin, especially the upgrading of the bilateral relations from a " Partnership for Peace and Prosperity " to a "Strategic Partnership".

The two countries pledged to boost cooperation in multiple sectors such as diplomacy, security, defense, trade and investment, people-to-people ties, and tourism.

Samdech Thipadei also expressed his pleasure and welcomed the presence of the Thai president of the National Assembly in Cambodia in the future. The premier added that on 25 February 2024, Cambodia will hold the 5th Legislature Senate Election. Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Chairman of the Supreme Privy Council of the King, will run as President of the Senate. Samdech Thipadei hoped that the Thai president of the National Assembly would hold more meetings with Samdech Techo Hun Sen after the upcoming Senate election.
