Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 6 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the policy of the Royal Government across all mandates is to enhance the nation's prosperity, reduce poverty, and improve people’s quality of life.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Feb. 6) at the annual meeting of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation at the Ministry.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored, "The policy of the Royal Government in all mandates is to make our country more prosperous by ensuring the prosperity of our people, reducing poverty, and improving living standards. The premier added that the poverty rate has decreased from over 50 per cent in 1997 to 17 per cent this year, with a slight increase due to the COVID19 pandemic. Cambodia's economic growth has averaged 7 per cent since the attainment of peace until the onset of COVID19, signifying an improvement in the lives of our people. Those who were previously below the poverty line have transitioned into the middle class, and a significant portion of the middle class has ascended to higher economic standings in the 20 years following the end of the war.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined the unfortunate impact of COVID19 on Cambodia. Despite the setback caused by the pandemic, it is essential to take necessary actions to sustain and foster further development.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet further added that aside from the COVID19 crisis, Cambodia faces challenges including global inflation and conflicts in various regions. It is crucial for Cambodia to address these challenges while also laying the groundwork for the nation's long-term future. Proactive measures must be taken to mitigate the impact of future crises on people's livelihoods.
