Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 31 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the launching of the "Special Program to Promote Investment in Preah Sihanouk Province 2024” can be considered as the Royal Government’s another practical step for economic development.
The premier spoke on Wednesday (Jan. 31) during the launching of "Special Program to Promote Investment in Sihanoukville 2024” in Sihanoukville province.
Samdech Thipadei underlined that to further promote economic growth, the seventh-mandate Royal Government has been implementing a series of sharp, clear, and targeted reform measures that can be effectively and continuously implemented, especially measures to solve chronic structural problems.
"As a practical step, we initiated the 19th Government-Private Sector Forum on 13 November 2023, with a set of sharp reform measures for the long term, aiming to address the real challenges of the private sector. In this regard, today's announcement of the implementation of the “Special Program to Promote Investment in Preah Sihanouk 2024” or “Invest in Preah Sihanouk Province 2024" can be considered as another new practical step of the Royal Government,” Samdech Thipadei underscored.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that with the preparation and implementation of this special program, the Royal Government intended to utilize potential resources and the existing industrial base to accelerate national economic activity, especially by leveraging infrastructure and achievements attained so far.
The premier also highlighted that Sihanoukville already boasts major special economic zones and key infrastructure, notably the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway and the deep-sea port connecting the province to other major economic hubs, both domestically and regionally.
In addition, the Royal Government is also considering setting up regional logistics hubs in the province within the framework of the master plan to transform Sihanoukville into a multi-purpose special economic zone, aligning with the development of coastal provinces and the Cambodian coastline's transformation into a multi-purpose economic corridor and gateway.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei reiterated that the Royal Government anticipates that this special program will contribute to transforming the face and future of Sihanoukville into a significant economic hub and a model for Cambodia by effectively addressing forthcoming challenges and utilizing potential and existing favourable resources in this coastal province.
