Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 24 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet asked the armed forces to focus on strengthening military diplomacy by fostering cooperation through joint training and exercises with partner nations. This initiative aims to uphold peace and foster friendship between countries, emphasizing the ongoing need for dedicated attention to training to enhance military capabilities.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Jan. 24) at the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Cambodian Royal Army Command Headquarters.

"We have established cooperation with our partners in joint training and exercises, and this activity should continue [...] Military diplomacy plays a crucial role in contributing to maintaining peace and friendship between countries because, during conflicts, civilians do not throw stones at each other; it's the army, the armed forces. Therefore, establishing cooperation, building mutual trust, and addressing common issues such as cross-border crime, counter-terrorism, and drugs are priority tasks that we need to undertake," the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet mentioned that military diplomacy aligns with Cambodia's vision and direction. In recent years, Cambodia has forged friendship agreements with several countries, including Japan, China, Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, and other ASEAN nations.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that there is a need to persist in strengthening and expanding these partnerships to involve every army, fostering more friendships, improved cooperation, and enhanced training. Furthermore, the armed forces should actively engage in bilateral and multilateral exercises both domestically and internationally, contributing to the continual reinforcement of military capacities.

Additionally, the premier advised continued attention to strengthening training in schools, emphasizing that under-construction schools should continue to be developed, with a focus on refining course curriculums and conducting research.
