Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 24 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced Cambodia’s commitment in deploying troops for peacekeeping operations under the United Nations (UN).

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Jan. 24) at the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Cambodian Royal Army Command Headquarters.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that to bolster national prestige on the international stage, the Cambodian Army has actively participated in the UN missions, working alongside other units. Their duties extend beyond preserving peace within our borders; they also contribute to maintaining peace in other nations.

"Because of our army's commendable reputation in peacekeeping efforts abroad, during my recent visit to France, additional requests were made for Cambodia to consider deploying troops to contribute to peacekeeping efforts in other nations. Nevertheless, it is crucial to note that Article 53 of the Cambodian Constitution explicitly prohibits the stationing of the Cambodian army abroad unless done so under the auspices of the UN. Therefore, we will continue to collaborate with the UN to engage in peacekeeping efforts worldwide. We comprehend the hardships of war and the suffering of our people caused by the flames of conflict,” the premier underlined.

On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored that the army has undergone many reforms in the past 25 years, transforming into a force that arises from integration, maintains unity, and embodies a strong spirit of the people. The army plays a pivotal role in protecting the territory, national integrity, and maintaining peace for the people.

Samdech Thipadei added that the new Royal Government has outlined various policies to safeguard past accomplishments and build new ones. The military remains a crucial component in preserving the environment, particularly in maintaining peace.
