Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 23 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that during his first five months in office, he successfully addressed various societal challenges by leveraging information sourced from the social media. The premier not only directly resolved some issues but also delegated certain tasks to institutions and sub-national authorities for immediate action.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jan. 23) during the closing of annual meeting of the Ministry of Information at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined, "In the last five months of our government's term, I have actively tackled numerous problems by utilizing information available on social media. I instructed sub-national authorities to take prompt action."
Samdech Thipadei underscored that, not all information published on social media is comprehensive and accurate, but any information that can be researched and verified is considered for direct action.
In the occasion, Samdech Thipadei expressed gratitude to various institutions and sub-national authorities for their timely assistance in addressing issues. One specific example involves the unauthorized collection of taxes on goods sold in baskets, a practice not authorized by the Royal Government. Upon receiving this information, the Royal Government promptly forwarded it to the relevant authorities for immediate action.
Prime Minister Hun Manet added that the effective use of information from social media to address issues promptly, preventing minor concerns from escalating into major problems. He noted that this method has been successfully employed by sub-national authorities in the past to manage and control the dissemination of up-to-date information.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet urged Capital-Provincial Governors and Heads of Institutions to actively employ this method to swiftly resolve problems, particularly those within their respective jurisdictions.
