Paris (FN), Jan. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the Royal Government has maintained the electricity price and covered the losses in order to assist citizens’ livelihoods, speaking during a meeting with the Cambodian community living in Europe on 14 January 2024 in Paris, France.
"In ASEAN, electricity prices have risen over the last few years due to the economic crisis. In Cambodia, there has been no increase in electricity prices. The Royal Government covered all the losses. In fact, Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) last year lost hundreds of millions of dollars to maintain the electricity prices to assist the citizens’ livelihoods. The neighbouring countries, Europe and the United Kingdom have increased the electricity prices due to the economic crisis,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei continued that electricity prices remained stable thanks to 62 percent of non-renewable energy from hydropower, rain and water.
"Some of the energy received from water can be sustained, but Cambodia is still losing a hundred million dollars to assist the citizens’ livelihoods, particularly the poor,” the premier added.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet led a delegation to attend the 54th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland on 16-17 January 2024 and pay an official visit to France from 18-19 January 2024.
