Paris (FN), Jan. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that his official visit to France is significant because the French President personally issued an invitation letter to Samdech Thipadei highlighting the high value of diplomatic, political, and economic relations between the two countries.
The premier spoke during a meeting with Cambodian community living in Europe on 14 January 2024 in Paris, France.
Samdech Thipadei underlined that typically, official visits are reciprocal, with the prime minister being invited by the counterpart prime minister. However, the official visit between France and Cambodia is exceptional, with the President of France personally extending the invitation, signifying the highest level in France.
"This proves that France values the diplomatic, political, and economic relations between Cambodia and France, and Cambodia also provides an equal response. [...] Cambodia-France relations are historical relations that must continue to strengthen," Samdech Thipadei underlined.
Samdech Thipadei added that in recent days, there have been efforts to explain to French President Emmanuel Macron not to be misled by the Cambodian prime minister. In response, Samdech Thipadei underlined that before a leader of a superpower like France extends an invitation to the head of the Royal Government of Cambodia, a comprehensive assessment is necessary. Advisors from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, and even the president himself must assess and decide on the benefits of the relationship before issuing such an official invitation.
Samdech Thipadei further stated that the Heads of Government of Cambodia and the Heads of Government of the French Republic are responsible for their respective nations. There are also requests for scholarships from the French government for Cambodian students.
