Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 11 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet responded to videos depicting shoes and tire eating, and other negative images that impact national social and cultural values. He urged young Cambodians to engage in activities within legal boundaries and refrain from actions that adversely affect the country's cultural values.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jan. 11) during the closing of 2023 annual meeting of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.

Samdech Thipadei encouraged the Ministry of Women's Affairs and relevant ministries to collaborate in safeguarding women and children. The focus should be on preventing negative influences on women, children, and victims of violence and trafficking.

In addition, attention must be paid to promoting social morality, women's values, especially to educate young men and women about actions that could undermine social values or tarnish national honour. The intention is not to persecute them, but to provide education to prevent deviations from social morality.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet urged the public to act responsibly and respect the law for the maintenance of social order and adherence to national cultural traditions.

"I call on the people, both men and women, to exercise their rights and freedoms within certain boundaries. Our culture must be upheld", Samdech Thipadei underscored.

The premier underscored Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage spanning thousands of years, urging all Cambodians to preserve and practice the national culture, language, and values. This is crucial for maintaining consistency and preserving the national identity for future generations.

Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women's Affairs, also underlined recent actions taken by the Ministry to address immoral acts. Through the National Committee for Promotion of Social Morality, Women and Khmer Families, the Ministry intervened against groups engaging in such acts and posting such videos on social media.
