Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 4 – The Cambodian Investment Board (CIB) of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) approved 268 projects worth nearly USD 5 billion, according to the press release seen by Fresh News on Thursday (Jan. 4).

“In 2023, CDC approved 248 new investment projects and 21 product expansion projects, with a total investment capital of USD 4.9 billion and creating about 307, 000 job opportunities,” the press release added.

In addition, the projects in the industrial sector reached 92 percent of the total projects and received 46 percent of the total capital last year.

However, the projects in the infrastructure and other sectors stood at only 2.6 percent of the total projects but contributed to 44 of the total investment capital.

Overall, the total investment capital has increased significantly by 22 percent compared to the year-on-year period in 2022.

Most of the capital inflowed last year came from China and local investors, contributing nearly 90 percent of the total capital, the report added.

The majority of projects are situated in Kampong Speu province, with additional investments concentrated in key areas such as Phnom Penh, as well as surrounding provinces like Kandal and Takeo. Furthermore, the initiatives extend to provinces with Special Economic Zones (SEZs), including Svay Rieng and Sihanoukville.
