Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 27 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that as long as peace is guaranteed, the nation will continue to develop and prosper, speaking on Wednesday (Dec. 27) during an inauguration ceremony for Cheung Aek Sewage Treatment Plant in Phnom Penh.

Premier Hun Manet highlighted the value of peace and also urged people to jointly maintain peace.

Samdech Thipadei continued, by recalling the history, we know how far we have come and must be proud of these achievements. He responded to an accusation stating that he, Samdech Techo, leaders the Cambodian People's Party, often and only talked about the bitter past history.

"While we may not have reached the level of development seen in the United States, we, as Cambodians, should take pride in our progress. Comparing one location and era to another, our transformation from the grim days of the Cheung Aek massacre 40 to 50 years ago to the present is remarkable,” the premier underlined.

Samdech Thipadei added, “Cheung Aek Lake, once a haunting place, has now become a symbol of numerous achievements. Looking ahead, as long as we safeguard peace, this unity will persist and flourish. It's a source of collective pride for all Cambodians, and we, the younger generation, must actively preserve this opportunity,”

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the imperative of considering not just immediate accomplishments but also focusing on their long-term preservation. He underscored the paramount importance of safeguarding an environment conducive to the well-being of the people. He urged a cessation of internal conflicts, emphasizing the need for collective nation-building through the maintenance of peace and national unity—a hard-won achievement derived from overcoming historical challenges.
