Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Economic Census of Cambodia 2022 demonstrated the Royal Government's practical actions, not just imagination, speaking on Tuesday (Dec. 26) during the launching ceremony on national report on final results of Economic Census of Cambodia 2022.
The 2022 Economic Census aims to gather comprehensive data on economic entities and create a master registration of business establishments, handicrafts, trade, and services in Cambodia. This registration provides crucial information on the status of economic activities and structures to policymakers, planners, researchers, and other stakeholders. It serves as the primary reference for future economic censuses and surveys, as well as a valuable resource for administrative purposes, research and analysis, and policy development. Excluded from the registration are households and economic entities in agriculture.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, "The Economic Census of Cambodia 2022 is a resource we can utilize for the next ten years. It provides a crucial foundation for our country's advancement. It serves as the basis for achieving the National Development Plan 2024-2028 and the Sector Development Plan, both of which will be launched in 2024
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet further underlined that the policy framework is not formed based on speculation, outdated information, or social media posts. Instead, it should rely on current and accurate data gathered on the ground. Creating a specific policy framework requires the use of real data rather than speculation, emotion, or mere contemplation.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei added that actual data is of utmost importance. The data obtained, despite personal preferences, must be accepted as there is no alternative and no other means to conduct the census countrywide again. Therefore, it is essential to ensure the quality of the data.
Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored that the Royal Government, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and all ministries, before formulating their policies, did not dispatch officials to conduct their individual censuses due to constraints in budget, time, and expertise. Therefore, it is imperative to rely on this shared data to establish goals. This data serves as a guiding light for attracting investments, and the collective data becomes an indicator for both foreign and domestic investments in business creation.
Meanwhile, the premier also underlined that the data helps in conducting analyses with clear efficiency and targeted precision, minimizing risks. Although not all projections are entirely accurate due to global economic fluctuations, the absence of clear data and analyses makes effective progress challenging.
