Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet shared seven recommendations to chart future directions for the work of the Ministry of Planning on Tuesday (Dec. 26) during the launch of the national report on the final results of the Economic Census of Cambodia 2022.
The seven recommendations are as follow:
1. Advise the Ministry of Planning to transform the data from the 2022 Economic Census into comprehensive and scientific information. This transformation will be achieved through the application of appropriate statistical science methods, providing concrete input for ministries and institutions to use in their respective tasks, particularly in the realm of policy-making.
2. The Ministry of Planning, with the National Institute of Statistics as its staff, must continue to improve the economic census and other relevant surveys, ensuring the collection of data that is truly representative of the issues it aims to study for its benefit and inputs for national socio-economic development. To ensure good representation, the sample must be well prepared in a statistical manner using the appropriate sampling method.
3. Relevant ministries and institutions must cooperate with the Ministry of Planning in conducting necessary censuses and surveys, as the Ministry of Planning is a state institution with high technical skills in charge of data collection, in order to improve the census. Socio-economic as a whole, and in other words, to be an input for all ministries and institutions to carry out their respective work.
4. The Ministry of Planning must continue to increase the capacity of its officials regularly for the necessary surveys and censuses, as well as the work of translating data into sufficient information for the Royal Government to use in a timely manner.
5. The Ministry of Planning must develop a strategic plan for attracting and mobilizing highly talented human resources in statistics and statistical analysis, both domestically and abroad, for the important work of the Ministry. At the same time, the redistribution of existing human resources to or near specialization will help increase efficiency and productivity.
6. Due to use of data is important for all jobs and all sectors, Samdech Thipadei requested all ministries and institutions at both national and sub-national levels to train their officials in the knowledge of the use of statistics to make officials appropriate to use statistics and scientific research findings for individual work.
7. Requesting the Ministry of Economy and Finance to examine the possibility of allocating budget resources for investment in human resource training and increasing human capital as indicated in the Pentagonal Strategy - Phase 1 and for the provision of appropriate technological equipment for the Ministry of Planning to increase the efficiency of performance in the field of statistics to be highly efficient, good quality and timely response.
