Sihanoukville (FN), Dec. 22 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that in the first few months of 2023, the beginning of the mandate of the Royal Government of the 7th legislature, he presided over the inauguration and the construction of many achievements under the financial support from Japan.
The premier spoke on Friday (Dec. 22) during a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new container terminal-Phase 1, and the inauguration for the official use of two units of mobile harbour crane at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.
These noteworthy achievements underscore the robust and fruitful relations between Cambodia and Japan, a testament to the enduring partnership, particularly as both nations celebrate the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, the premier added.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked the Government and the people of Japan for helping to build the port and mobile harbour crane at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port. The Royal Government has the vision to turn Sihanoukville Autonomous Port into a regional logistics hub.
On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei reminded that a month ago, he instructed Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol and Deputy Prime Minister Aun Porn Moniroth to prepare the groundbreaking for the construction site for the port in 2023 and it has proceeded as planned.
"In recent months, we have inaugurated many joint achievements, and this is a symbol of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Cambodia-Japan diplomatic and fruitful relations for both countries and both peoples,” the premier underlined.
Premier Hun Manet stated that on 18 December 2023, during his recent visit to Tokyo, Samdech Thipadei met with the prime minister of Japan on the occasion of the ASEAN-Japan 50th Anniversary Commemorative Summit, and both leaders discussed the strengthening of friendly relations between Cambodia and Japan.
In addition, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet highlighted two distinctive features for the year 2023: first, the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Japan; and second, the elevation of diplomatic ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. This marks the highest level achieved in the history of Cambodia-Japan relations, underscoring the depth and significance of the bilateral relations.
