Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 21 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government of Cambodia has implemented the current environmental policy with the aim of preventing adverse effects on the next generation.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Dec. 21) at the Ministry of Environment's annual meeting.

"The crucial task in formulating significant policies now is to prevent the possibility of our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren suffering from unfavourable environmental issues. Progress for the livelihood of people everywhere needs to advance. Certainly, we cannot proceed without considering both aspects," Samdech Thipadei underlined.

The premier added that the people of Cambodia, as well as the people of the world, require a planet that is conducive to life and longevity. Country development is essential to address current issues and meet future needs, but it is also crucial to consider the preservation of values and the environment. Otherwise, we may be content with achievements in our lifetime, but our children and grandchildren will face challenges.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet asserted that the needs in economic development, including industrial construction, energy projects, and sometimes hydropower development and transmission lines, may have impacts on certain areas. The construction of bridges, for example, can affect water flow, but it is necessary for economic connectivity and growth. However, it is crucial to ensure that development projects serve as a foundation for long-term and sustainable development.

This Circular Strategy on Environment is designed with a circular approach, focusing on three key angles including enhancing policy, establishing digital administration, and broadening extension. These three elements serve as the driving force propelling the other three strategies forward with vigour. The first strategy addresses pollution control, modernizing pollution awareness, and enhancing environmental impact assessments. The second strategy focuses on protected areas and improving the livelihoods of local communities. The third strategy, sustainability, emphasizes compliance, expanded cooperation, and strengthened coordination.
