Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 21 – The Thai public has expressed strong criticism and condemnation of the Kao Klai party for allegedly facilitating the training of foreign extremist groups aimed at opposing the Royal Government of Cambodia. This action is deemed illegal by Thai citizens and is viewed as interference in Cambodia's internal affairs.

The Thai People's Network for Democracy, led by former Democrat MP for Bangkok, submitted a petition to the Thai government on 19 December 2023. The petition focuses on denouncing the alleged ill-intended activities of the opposition group connected to the Cambodian government by the Kao Klai party.

The letter calls on the Royal Government of Thailand, the Thai National Security Council, particularly the Thai Minister of Defence, and the Thai Democrats to investigate the activities of the Thai opposition party, Kao Klai party, which allegedly supports the opposition movement and utilizes Thailand as a base for political education against the Royal Government of Cambodia. The petition's main points are as follows:

1. If the Kao Klai party is found responsible, it interferes in Cambodia's internal affairs, impacting the diplomatic relations between the two governments.

2. The alleged breach of Thai law, as Thailand prohibits any foreign entity from utilizing its territory to act against the legitimate governments of other countries, especially those within ASEAN.

Following the submission of the petition on 19 December to the Office of the Council of Ministers of Thailand, Defence Minister Sutin Klungsang has committed to investigating the complaint. If the allegations are substantiated, strict action will be taken. As of 20 December, the petition has been forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is set to proceed to the Security Committee and Police of the Thai Parliament.
