Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 21 – Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary requested Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Cambodia Martin Vávra to strengthen and expand the cooperation between the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the National Assembly of the Czech Republic.
The president’s request was made during a courtesy call by Martin Vávra on Wednesday (Dec. 20) at the National Assembly.
At the same time, the president also asked the Czech Republic to consider the possibility of increasing the volume of bilateral trade, as well as enhancing the people-to-people relations.
On the occasion, the president of the National Assembly underlined that the Czech Republic, a good old friend of Cambodia, has been offering invaluable assistance since the challenging period of the early 1980s. While the Czech Republic has been a significant partner across various domains, the collaborative ties in legislative matters between the two nations remain somewhat constrained, signalling a timely opportunity for their enhancement.
Khuon Sudary underscored that the positive rapport between the two nations not only yields advantages, joy, and prosperity for Cambodia and the Czech Republic but also holds the potential to foster broader benefits. She added that deepening cooperation between the National Assembly of Cambodia and the Czech Republic will play a pivotal role in constructing peace, ensuring social stability, and promoting sustainable development not just for the citizens of both countries but for people worldwide.
The president also reiterated the critical significance of fortifying the principle of pluralism, particularly in the prevailing high-risk global environment.
Ambassador Martin Vávra supported the remarks made by the National Assembly president, commending and expressing high regard for both the National Assembly and the new Royal Government of Cambodia. He lauded their active and energetic efforts in steering the country. The ambassador conveyed strong confidence that, under the leadership of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, the nation is poised for accelerated development.
Martin Vávra affirmed that the Czech Republic continues to support development in Cambodia as in the past, the Czech Republic has provided development assistance to Cambodia in areas such as education, health and rural development.
During his diplomatic mission in Cambodia, Ambassador Martin Vávra pledged to work hard to promote more active and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in both the legislative and executive branches.
Martin Vávra pointed out that the Czech Republic is currently studying with the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Cambodia on the possibility for Cambodia's further growth and development. Meanwhile, the ambassador also endorsed the President of the National Assembly's remarks concerning the significance of enhancing people-to-people contacts, underscoring its importance in advancing the mutual interests of both nations.
