Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 20 – In response to journalists' inquiries about whether Japanese investments influence democratic principles, Jean François Tan, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister, said that Japan invests worldwide, irrespective of whether in communist or democratic countries, as money itself is indifferent to political systems.
The minister delegate spoke at a press conference on Tuesday (Dec. 19) at the Phnom Penh International Airport after the premier concluded his five-day visit to Japan.
"Do not mention political regimes; money does not discriminate between democracy and dictatorship. Money is money; it is invested where there is profitability," Jean François Tan underscored.
According to the minister delegate, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet is currently focusing on economic diplomacy to attract more investors. This approach encompasses two main goals:
- The first goal is economic diplomacy, aimed to attract large Japanese companies with branches in Cambodia to increase their investments.
- The second goal is to allure companies without existing operations in Cambodia to invest in the country. Notable examples such as AEON and Minebea demonstrate that Cambodia is an attractive destination for conducting business.
