Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 20 – Jean François Tan, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, assured that Cambodia-Japan relations remain steadfast, even with a change in Cambodia's prime minister. The enduring diplomatic ties between the two nations, spanning 70 years, persist.
Jean François Tan spoke on Tuesday (Dec. 19) at the press conference at Phnom Penh International Airport.
Responding to inquiries from journalists regarding Cambodia-Japan relations, the minister delegate underlined, "The stability of these relations does not hinge on the personality of the prime minister, whether it be from Samdech Techo Hun Sen to Samdech Thipadei. Several factors contribute to the enhancement of relations between the two countries."
Jean François Tan highlighted the longstanding diplomatic history between Cambodia and Japan, citing Japan's active involvement in peace-seeking efforts in Cambodia during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Furthermore, the minister delegate pointed out commonalities between Cambodia and Japan, particularly in the historical context following the Khmer Rouge era, resembling Japan's recovery after World War II. Both nations faced widespread devastation, with significant loss of life.
Looking ahead, Jean François Tan reassured that the relationship between Cambodia and Japan remains robust, with ongoing assistance from Japan. Japan recognizes Cambodia as a nation experiencing substantial social development and economic growth.
"In recent years, Cambodia has demonstrated remarkable economic growth and robust socio-economic development, prompting Japan to see Cambodia as a valuable economic partner," the minister delegate added.
Additionally, Jean François Tan affirmed that Cambodia is entering a new stage characterized by vigorous economic growth and solid socio-economic development, intertwining the societies of Japan and Cambodia.
