​​Tokyo (FN), Dec. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government’s efforts to complete the remaining 16 per cent of border demarcation with Viet Nam aimed at peaceful negotiations for the national interest.

The premier spoke in a meeting with the Cambodian community in Japan on Saturday (Dec. 16).

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet advised all Cambodians not to antagonize other nations but to cultivate friendships. Cambodians should avoid creating enmity with any nation. While acknowledging that history holds stories for many nations, including Japan, it is important to maintain a peaceful approach.

"Believe me, I am also Khmer. The Government is dedicated to working for our national interests, and the ongoing border demarcation with Viet Nam constitutes 16 per cent that we continue to address. Negotiating the completion of this final 16 per cent is challenging, but if we do not prioritize our national interests, it would be misconstrued as abandoning territory. The 16 per cent issue dates back to the 80s, and we are resolute in finding a solution through negotiation," Samdech Thipadei underlined.

Samdech Thipadei added that in an effort to preserve territorial integrity, the Cambodian team has actively engaged in negotiations with the Vietnamese side. Upholding Cambodia's national interest, the guiding principle involves fostering solidarity with all nations and respecting each other's interests. This commitment reflects Cambodia's dedication to diplomatic dialogue and cooperation in safeguarding territorial integrity and ensuring a spirit of mutual respect among nations.
