Hanoi (FN), Dec. 12 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the historical facts of mutual support between Cambodia and Viet Nam, speaking at a banquet hosted by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday night (Dec. 11) in Hanoi, Viet Nam.

In his speech, Samdech Thipadei recalled the unwavering commitment of previous generations of Cambodian leaders, including the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, His Majesty the King and Samdech Techo Hun Sen, with the Vietnamese leaders to improve relations and cooperation of both nations.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet also recalled Cambodia's assistance in the cause of the unification of North and South Vietnam in the 1960s. Likewise, he acknowledged Vietnam's instrumental assistance in liberating Cambodia from the brutal grip of the genocidal Pol Pot regime in the late 1970s, emphasizing the enduring collaboration that persisted in the subsequent redevelopment of Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined, "this stands as a testament to history. It is imperative that we actively educate and propagate these historical facts to our people, particularly the younger generation. Understanding this historical truth is pivotal, as it illuminates the profound significance and enduring values embedded in the close relationship between Cambodia and Vietnam."

The official visit of Samdech Thipadei to Viet Nam signifies a further deepening of the long-standing relationship based on the spirit of "Good Neighbourliness, Traditional Friendship, Comprehensive Cooperation, and Long-term Stability between Cambodia and Viet Nam" for the mutual benefit of the two nations.
