Siem Reap (FN), Dec. 8 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Angkor Archaeological Park faces the risk of removal from the World Heritage List if it fails to comply with the technical requirements set by the UNESCO. Therefore, it is crucial for everyone to jointly preserve the legacy left by ancestors for thousands of years.
The premier spoke on Friday (Dec. 8) during his meeting with nearly 3,000 people who voluntarily relocate to Run Ta Ek Area, Siem Reap province.
The premier underlined that heritage sites of some countries worldwide, despite their advancements, have been removed from the UNESCO World Heritage List for not complying with the requirements. Cambodia is determined not to witness such a fate and aims to maintain its temples for thousands of years to come.
"Our temple, aged 1,200 years, requires assurance and perpetual maintenance for thousands of years. While our individual lives may span 150 years and be filled with joy, the essence of our nation must endure for millennia. The temples, legacies of our ancestors constructed over a millennium ago, must persist. Safeguarding this heritage is our paramount duty," Samdech Thipadei underlined.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that the voluntary relocation of people to Run Ta Ek Natural Village and Peak Sneng is a pivotal undertaking aimed at fulfilling the technical conditions stipulated by UNESCO.
