Siem Reap (FN), Dec. 8 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the relevant ministries and institutions, especially the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training to consider creating jobs and boosting economy for people living in the Run Ta Ek development area.
The premier spoke on Friday (Dec. 8) during his meeting with nearly 3,000 people who voluntarily relocate to Run Ta Ek Area, Siem Reap province.
Samdech Thipadei underlined that the competent authorities must work together to examine the feasibility of attracting investment and lay out plan to transform this place into another important economic pole for the province, fostering job creation and expanding the area's potential to emerge as a development zone.
"People are residing here, and the economy is on the rise—a crucial facet in the Royal Government's seventh mandate, focusing on job creation. The growth of the economy cannot rely solely on the increase of oil income; it must translate into tangible benefits for the people, elevating their livelihoods across various domains. I urge you to prioritize this location, entrusting the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Tourism, local authorities, and all competent ministries to evaluate its interface with the province's untapped potential,” the premier underlined.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei instructed the Ministry and the Department of Labor and Vocational Training as well as relevant authorities to examine the possibility of providing vocational training to people in this area, especially young people.
Samdech underlined that as outlined in the Royal Government’s plan to provide vocational training to 1.5 million young people, the Ministry of Labor must review special programs to offer training to the people in the Run Ta Ek area to link them with the existing job opportunities in Siem Reap, and create various potentials within the region.
On the occasion, the premier underscored that development takes time and the Royal Government pledged to help facilitate transportation, reduce shipping costs, and strive to transform the region into a development hub. Such unwavering commitment also extends to Banteay Srei district, Angkor Thom district and other areas of Siem Reap province.
Currently, there are 5,865 families voluntarily relocating from Angkor area to Run Ta Ek development area and 4,032 families in the Peak Sneng development area.
