Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 8 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged the Beijing Urban Construction Group Co. Ltd (BUCG) to introduce advanced technology for the development of water and wastewater treatment in the kingdom.

The premier received a courtesy call from BUCG President Li Daosong on 7 December 2023, at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei warmly welcomed Li Daosong and his delegation to Cambodia. He commended BUCG for its investments in water and wastewater treatment, as well as its contributions to human resources training in this sector. These efforts play a vital role in enhancing urbanization, improving citizens' health, and advancing the clean water sector in the kingdom.

As this year marks the 65th anniversary of Cambodia-China diplomatic relations, Samdech Thipadei expressed his intention to forge closer trade and investment relations between the two countries.

Li Daosong expressed deep gratitude to Samdech Thipadei for taking valuable time to discuss with him and his delegation. He also praised Premier Hun Manet's leadership in the past three months for maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity through the launch of the Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1, aiming to bring more development with qualitative and effective results.

During the meeting, the president of BUCG conveyed his regards to Samdech Techo Hun Sen. He briefed Samdech Thipadei the company's background. BUCG operates in 38 countries worldwide and is the 13th largest company globally in the construction sector. BUCG focuses on green garden infrastructure investment, water treatment, wastewater treatment systems, and has completed various projects in Cambodia, such as the establishment of water and wastewater treatment systems and the organization of drainage and storage infrastructure in provinces like Battambang, Siem Reap, Kampong Speu, Sihanoukville, and Banteay Meanchey. Li Daosong also expressed interest in establishing an Institute of Water and Wastewater Treatment, Water Protection, and Environmental Protection in Cambodia.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei appreciated and congratulated BUCG for its significant achievements in Cambodia and other countries. He welcomed and encouraged the company to continue introducing new and modern technology to develop Cambodia's water and wastewater treatment sector. This would ensure environmental sustainability and promote public health through collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions in Cambodia.

Regarding the proposed establishment of water treatment institute, Samdech Thipadei encouraged BUCG to maintain its collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions. He also suggested cooperation with the Techo Sen Institute of Public Works and Transport to study the project, send technicians or experts for human resource training programs, and explore investment opportunities in other potential sectors such as physical infrastructure.
