Kep (FN), Dec. 3 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called for continued peace at all costs for the sake of tourism sector, speaking at the closing ceremony of the 10th Sea Festival, held on Sunday (Dec. 3) in Kep province.
"I would like to take this opportunity to encourage and offer insights aimed at fostering the growth of tourism. [...] We must continue to maintain absolute peace, even at whatever the price. Despite labeling my emphasis on peace as dictatorial by some critics, it remains crucial,” the premier underlined.
Samdech Thipadei continued, “our history attests that war has not revisited us. Reflecting on the wisdom of our ancestors over the past 500 years, I urge you to ask elderly people, could they have foreseen another war in our country in the 60s and 70s? The answer is inconceivable and underscores the significance of maintaining enduring peace.”
"Preserving this peace is crucial in all corners of our Cambodian territories" Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined.
On the occasion, the premier underlined that during his helicopter journey to Kep province yesterday, passing through Phnom Voar, a significant former battlefield, he received insights from the helicopter pilot, who was also a war veteran. The pilot informed Samdech Thipadei that he had dropped bombs in the area twice due to Khmer Rouge occupation.
Samdech Thipadei added that the once battlefield is now transformed into a development site with thriving plantations. There were three foreigners who were captured by the Khmer Rouge near the railway in this area and tragically killed. No one can escape, even foreigners were unable to escape the turmoil.
