Koh Kong (FN), Nov. 30 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged citizens to use electric vehicles (EV) to increase energy efficiency and reduce costs.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Nov. 30) during a groundbreaking ceremony for a 150MW Stung Tatai Leu hydropower dam in Koh Kong province.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "we encourage the use of electric vehicles (EV) among the Cambodian people, citing two key advantages for Cambodia: increased energy efficiency due to the superior performance of electric motors compared to internal combustion engines and the importance of efficient energy use for sustainability and cost reduction.”

"Nevertheless, we are actively working to improve energy efficiency through the exploration of advanced technologies. Furthermore, individuals can play a direct role in curbing carbon emissions, contributing to environmental preservation and the overall enhancement of energy efficiency”, he added.

Samdech Thipadei affirmed that, "I have directed Energy Minister Keo Rattanak to explore a pilot project in Phnom Penh involving individuals with tricycles to promote greater electricity use, which would not only benefit the environment but also ensure stable prices, guarantee a reliable energy supply, and ultimately reduce costs, thereby improving the lives of many Cambodians.”

For EV, there are currently 13 charging stations, with four located at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, one at Aeon Mall 2, one at Total Prey Sar, three at PTT, one in Siem Reap, one in Preah Sihanouk, one in Battambang, and one in Mondulkiri.
