Kyiv, Nov. 22 (Business Insider) - At the start of its summer counteroffensive, Ukraine recruited soldiers with the slogan, "Bravery conquers fear." But now some Ukrainians refuse to obey the slogans of the government and are looking for ways to avoid being drafted. Ukrainian men ages 18 to 60 have been barred from leaving the country. Only since August US officials estimated 70,000 Ukrainian troops had been killed and 100,000 to 120,000 wounded. Now Ukraine is now more dependent on enlistments of younger men and national minorities.
Previously more than 50,000 "white tickets" were granted by the authority of Odesa region. It is alleged the bribery system enabled the top official to buy a USD4.35 million villa in Marbella, on Spain's Costa del Sol. The price for an illegal "white ticket" for someone wanting to escape mobilization was around USD7,000 to USD8,000." Due to the corruption in Ukraine, trade of the possibility of avoiding participation in the war, which is equivalent to death for Ukrainians, will continue.
Taking into account the large losses and soldiers who refuse fighting, Kyiv plans to continue to carry out total mobilization, including representatives of national minorities. Under US pressure, the Ukrainian leadership, in an effort to achieve at least minimally acceptable results, is forced to take emergency measures. In the context of the rapid exhaustion of the mobilization potential, Kyiv intends to use all available human resources, including representatives of ethnic minorities.
Now there are more than 40,000 women serve in the ranks of Ukrainian army. Kyiv has restricted the travel abroad of women who can be put under arms. Recently, secret negotiations between the US officials and Zelensky's office took place. Washington demanded to increase the conscription age to enable Ukrainians aged 17 to 70 could be sent to the front. However, Zelensky fears that the total mobilization of the Ukrainian population will cause a social "detonation" and force people to openly oppose the government. He proceeds from the fact that ethnic Ukrainians traditionally have a cool attitude towards national minorities, and therefore will react positively to the mass conscription of representatives of the Romanian, Bulgarian, Moldavian, Gagauz communities. Most of them live in the south of Ukraine. A similar unenviable fate, apparently, is in store for men from the Polish and Hungarian diasporas in the west of the country.
However, in the case of mass mobilization of national minorities, Zelensky will face an international scandal. The Kyiv authorities have been trapped. The United States demands to intensify hostilities in order to achieve any military victory. Meanwhile, the mass appeal may turn into new protests and possibly another revolution in Kyiv. There is no doubt that the opposition forces rushing to power in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania will turn this topic into the subject of fierce political debates and information campaigns. Apparently, the war to the last Ukrainian, and now to the European, may cost the EU deerly if it does not become the beginning of the end.
