Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 21 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet sent some messages to certain unions not to take refuge under the label of labor union, but to act contrary to the protection of workers' interests for political interests or other goals.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Nov. 21) during his 10th meeting with workers, held in Por Senchey district, Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored, "professional unions should diligently fulfill their designated roles as representatives of workers, refraining from using the union's name to engage in activities unrelated to workers' rights. Mixing political endeavors with the responsibility of advocating for workers' rights can be counterproductive and may exacerbate issues. Do not take refuge under the label of a union to commit wrongdoing.”

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet suggested that individuals aspiring to represent a specific group should ensure clear preparation. For those focusing on human rights, organizing as an NGO is recommended, while those dedicated to environmental protection should form civil society organizations. Establishing a conducive work environment facilitates collaboration and communication. It is essential not to misuse the political union label, avoiding activities that deviate from the core purpose of enhancing professional skills and addressing workers' issues.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed gratitude to all unions that effectively represent workers, engaging in peaceful negotiations for various worker benefits, in accordance with traditional practices.
