Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 17 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet underlined that following the deliberation day, 7 January 1979, particularly after Cambodia achieved lasting peace through the win-win policy of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, religious freedom has completely restored without discrimination.

The premier spoke on Friday morning (Nov. 17) during a Preah Sokunveary Ceremony to Supreme Patriarch, held at Champus Kaek pagoda in Phnom Penh.

In Cambodia, every religion has experienced both positive and challenging situations. Seventy years ago, after gaining independence from France in 1953, all religions began to regain their freedom of worship. Unfortunately, during times of war, all religions suffered, and citizens faced adverse effects.

Fortunately, Samdech Thipadei added that after the deliberation day, 7 January 1979, all religions in the kingdom have been afforded equal opportunities, rights, and attention.

"Samdech Techo's win-win policy, which ended the war in 1998, saved the lives of the citizens of all religions [....] The termination of this war saved lives and granted equal opportunities to the citizens of all religions," the premier underlined.

Samdech Thipadei added that freedom of religion contributes to building and maintaining harmony in the religious sector.
