Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 17 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed pride in the absence of religious conflicts or wars throughout the modern history of Cambodia, speaking on Friday (Nov. 17) during a Preah Sokunveary Ceremony to Supreme Patriarch, held at Champus Kaek pagoda in Phnom Penh.

The premier underscored the Royal Government’s commitment to ensuring all citizens the freedom of religion practice without discrimination.

"Despite Buddhism being the state religion, the Constitution ensures freedom and the right to religious practice for all citizens in Cambodia. Every individual has the full freedom to practice religions other than Buddhism without facing discrimination. On the contrary, the respect and practice of all religions of all Cambodians is guaranteed and protected as long as it does not harm other religions, social order, or public security", Samdech Thipadei underscored.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei underlined that Cambodians of all religions endured similar challenges during the Khmer Rouge regime. After the deliberation day, 7 January 1979, Cambodia is fulfilled with rapid progress and achievements, and Buddhism has also been enhanced.

At the same time, premier Hun Manet urged Buddhists of all denominations to collaborate with the Ministry of Cults and Religions to uphold religious harmony, promote Buddhism, and foster social morality within the country.
