Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 16 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), called for a ceasefire at Gaza, speaking during the 6th General Assembly of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodia Motherland (SFDCM) on 15 November 2023 in Phnom Penh.

On the night of 7 October 2023, Hamas forces launched an attack on Israeli territory, killing many Israeli forces and civilians. One Cambodian student died and many other Israelis and foreigners were also taken hostage.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged all relevant stakeholders to work towards a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He underlined that in terms of territory, the magnitude of the tragedy in the Gaza Strip, resulting in casualties, surpasses that of Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime which killed three million Cambodians. Despite Cambodia's larger land area of 181,035 square kilometers, the Gaza Strip's relatively small size has led to an unacceptably high death toll.

"Without a ceasefire, Gaza would become the world's largest massacre site”, Samdech Techo Hun Sen underscored.

At this point, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also emphasized the current value of peace in Cambodia and the global necessity for peace. He urged reflection on the Russia-Ukraine war and the conflict between Israel and Hamas as cautionary examples. "Do not wait until peace disappears; actively seek peace."

"Efforts to destabilize Cambodia persist through color revolutions. I would like to convey a message to our development partners to refrain from using assistance under the guise of democracy and human rights to destabilize the Kingdom of Cambodia”, Samdech Techo underlined

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed hope that foreign nations would understand Cambodia's need to maintain peace.
