Siem Reap (FN), Nov. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet advised the Siem Reap Provincial Authority to tighten security measures and public order in the area surrounding Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) and in the entire province to ensure the safety of tourists.
The premier spoke on Thursday morning (Nov. 16) during an inauguration for the official launch of SAI in Siem Reap province.
"The authorities need to tighten security and public order in the area around the new airport as well as in the entire province to ensure our tourists' security, safety, and stability. That is a crucial task," the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei continued that the Ministry of Tourism is currently working to increase direct flights from other countries to SAI. In addition, during the 2023 ASEAN Summit, Samdech Thipadei negotiated to have the connection of tourist destinations among Cambodia and other ASEAN members, such as Viet Nam, Laos, the Philippines, and Thailand.
According to the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation report, as of 15 November 2023, the number of air passengers at SAI has steadily increased from 2,600 to 4,000 per day.
Currently, the average round-trip flight at SAI is 44 flights per day, mainly from ASEAN members and China.
