Siem Reap (FN), Nov. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the construction of the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport (SAI) is a testament to the transformation of former battlefields into a thriving development area.

The premier spoke on Thursday morning (Nov. 16) during an inauguration for the official launch of SAI in Siem Reap province.

"Chi Kraeng district and Sotr Nikum district were historically battlegrounds until 1998, witnessing the presence of Khmer Rouge forces. The journey along the road from the town to this location was once perilous, marked by mines and battlefields. Consequently, the transformation of this former war zone into a thriving development area—an industrial and multipurpose economic zone—stands as a significant achievement for Siem Reap, complementing the province's tourism-driven economy," the premier underscored.

On this occasion, Samdech Thipadei highlighted that these accomplishments align with the long-term vision set by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the former Prime Minister of Cambodia.

Additionally, Samdech Thipadei emphasized that the benefits extend beyond enhanced infrastructure, providing new employment opportunities for the residents of Siem Reap. The Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) is poised to emerge as a formidable catalyst for tourism in Siem Reap, a key tourist destination in Cambodia, contributing to the growth of the tourism and economy sectors on a national scale.
