Siem Reap (FN), Nov. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet supported and encouraged the construction company overseeing the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport to expand its investment plans in Siem Reap and transform the province into a multi-purpose development pole in Cambodia.

The premier spoke during a courtesy call by Wang Yubo, Governor of Yunnan Province of the People's Republic of China, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the official launch of Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport.

During their meeting, Wang Yubo expressed gratitude to Samdech Thipadei for his time extended for a courtesy call, enabling fruitful discussions on the occasion of the official inauguration of the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport.

On the occasion, the governor emphasized Yunnan's keen interest in the airport's development, considering it a significant investment under the "Belt and Road Initiative" and as an international airport project undertaken by overseas Chinese enterprises through the "Build, Operate, Transfer (BOT)" framework. Furthermore, he expressed his confidence that, under the wise leadership of Samdech Thipadei, Cambodia would thrive, fostering deeper, stronger, and enduring Cambodia-China cooperation, particularly with Yunnan province.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warmly welcomed the Governor of Yunnan Province and the accompanying delegation. Notably, this event coincides with the 65th anniversary of Cambodia-China diplomatic ties and the designation of 2024 as the year of people-to-people connectivity. Highlighting the historical significance of the day for Siem Reap and the entire Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Hun Manet underscored the remarkable achievements that stand as symbols of modern development while aligning with the imperative to preserve and protect Cambodia's rich cultural heritage. He attributed these accomplishments to the strong collaboration between Cambodia and China. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the three state-owned companies from Yunnan Province for their confidence and investment in Cambodia, particularly their pivotal role in the construction of the international airport.

At the same time, premier Hun Manet pointed out that under the leadership of Samdech Techo, the former prime minister, there has been unwavering focus on advancing Cambodia-China relations and providing robust support for the "Belt and Road" initiative. This commitment has played a pivotal role in fostering prosperity among developing nations. Within Cambodia, numerous substantial infrastructure development projects have materialized under the framework of "Belt and Road" initiative. These include the development of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway construction project, and the new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport.

The Siem Reap Angkor International Airport project is a joint venture co-owned by Yunnan Investment Group (76.6%), Yunnan Construction Group (20%) and Yunnan Airport Group (3.4%).
