Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet requested to study the preparation of additional routes for public buses to enhance traffic flow and mitigate congestion in Phnom Penh.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Nov. 15) during an inauguration of Koh Norea Bridge in Phnom Penh.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet directed the Phnom Penh Capital Administration to enhance and expand the transport services of the Autonomous Public Transport Authority (City Bus), including introducing additional routes covering the areas of Koh Norea and the Koh Pich satellite cities. This extension is aimed at serving new development areas, enhancing the appeal of public transportation, and facilitating people's travel.

Samdech Thipadei underscored that, “Indeed, with the recent addition of a few hundred buses to the Phnom Penh Capital Hall, there should be no concern about a lack of routes. Please plan this appropriately now and for the future, considering our limited road space. Therefore, the new city area should be designated as a gradual expansion of the bus lane route”.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei stated that the Royal Government is further studying the potential development of airways, public transport systems, and subways in Phnom Penh to ease traffic congestion and promote urban expansion.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed the need to study the urban geography of Phnom Penh by designating distinct zones for green spaces, commercial districts, and entertainment areas.
