Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 14 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the implementation of the social security program for health care is a direct response to the people's aspirations, particularly aimed at providing vital support in cases of accidents, healthcare needs, and facilitating access to pensions.
The premier spoke at the launching of "voluntary social security program" and "technical and vocational education and training" for poor and vulnerable households, held on Tuesday (Nov. 14) at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
Premier Hun Manet added that the initiative has never been practiced in the history of Cambodia.
"The expansion of this scope directly addresses the growing demand and aspirations of citizens in the informal economy, specifically self-employed individuals and NSSF members seeking to extend healthcare coverage to their families. The NSSF has become a symbol of the well-being and prosperity of the people and workers, playing a pivotal role in reducing costs, reinforcing stability, and enhancing income for overall health improvement,” Samdech Thipadei underlined.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that the recently announced voluntary contribution to the social security program is now accessible to self-employed individuals and their dependents, including spouses and children. This inclusive approach allows citizens who are self-employed and dependents of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) members, including children under 18 and spouses under the age of 60.
