Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 13 – Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet instructed Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) to examine the possibility of lowering electricity price for enterprises in industrial and agricultural sectors with excessive energy consumption.
The premier spoke at the 19th Government-Private Sector Forum, held on Monday (Nov. 13) at the Peace Palace.
"In order to contribute to the national economy, the Royal Government has recommended that Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) examine the possibility of reducing electricity price for enterprises in the industrial and agricultural sectors with excessive energy consumption. This measure aims to support increased production and job creation,” the premier underlined.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei emphasized that in the past, the Royal Government has received a request to lower the price and permission to use solar energy on the roof. In this sense, the government decided to lower the electricity price for enterprises in industrial and agricultural sectors, and about 20,000 enterprises have benefited from the discount.
However, the possibility of lowering the electricity price depends on the sustainability of the business and the stability of the supply, which needs to be studied thoroughly and comprehensively.
