Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 13 – Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia has issued a stern directive, emphasizing the prohibition of importing defective or poor-quality food into the country.
Speaking at the 19th Government-Private Sector Forum at the Peace Palace, Premier Hun Manet underscored the concerns raised by the private sector regarding the influx of low-quality frozen pork, chicken, eggs, and fish. These imports not only pose unfair competition for local farmers but also present potential health risks. In response to these challenges, the premier urged relevant officials to take decisive action.
Furthermore, Head of the Government underscored the necessity of amending the sub-decree governing prohibited and restricted goods. The proposed amendment would require permits from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries for the import of frozen pork, chicken, eggs, and fish, ensuring adherence to quality standards. The Ministry is mandated to utilize the National Single Window system to expedite permit applications, promoting efficiency in the process.
