Kampong Speu (FN), Nov. 10 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to increase equipment in order to enhance their disaster relief capabilities.

The premier presided over the celebration of the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the Special Forces Command, held on Friday (Nov. 10) in Kampong Speu province.

"In 2020, we established disaster relief units in certain regional armies, divisions, and brigades that lacked a structured framework before. While our existing structure is geared towards traditional rescue, defending territorial integrity, and engaging in warfare, the evolving nature of situations requires us to adapt our roles. Strengthening these capabilities is a crucial imperative. The Special Forces Command has been actively involved in various operations, including responding to floods, natural disasters, and building collapses. Consequently, there is a pressing need for additional equipment and well-prepared forces," the premier underlined.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei advised all units to pay attention to preparation of forces and means to rescue people in the event of an accident, with a proactive spirit and close cooperation with the local authorities and relevant ministries and institutions.

Moreover, all units shall promote the local economy, such as farming and animal husbandry, to improve the living standards of the armed forces and families to ensure comfort, well-being, and productivity in their missions.
