Siem Reap (FN), Nov. 6 – Recently, the number of air passengers landing in Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport (SIA) has increased from 2,600 to 3,200 per day after the official launch of the new international airport, undersecretary of state and spokesperson for Civil Aviation Sin Chanserivutha told Fresh News earlier on Monday (Nov. 6).

"The average number of air passengers visiting Siem Reap increased from 2,600 to 3,200 per day, in which most of them are from ASEAN member countries and China," Sin Chanserivutha underscored.

The spokesperson pointed out that the number of round-trip flights at SIA will be increased to 42 per day during the upcoming winter season. Currently, there are seven airlines, and it will be increased to 9-10 in the coming weeks.

SIA was officially launched on 16 October 2023, located in Sotr Nikum district, spanning Popel and Ta Yek communes, around 40km from Angkor Wat and 51km from Siem Reap town.

SAI is a 4E class international airport with a 3,600-meter runway that can accommodate the landing of all kinds of aircraft, such as Airbus 350 or Boeing 787. Most importantly, it can upgrade to 4F class, the highest class, that can take off and land large aircraft such as A380-800 and B777-9.

SAI is a historic achievement of Cambodia, and this airport will become a major economic force for the kingdom and the region.
