Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 6 – National Assembly president Khuon Sudary and Lou Qinjian, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, jointly committed to promoting Cambodia-China iron-clad friendship and cooperation, in particular the building of a high-standard, strategic, trustworthy and long-term Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era.
Lou Qinjian paid a courtesy call on National Assembly president Khuon Sudary on Monday morning (Nov. 6) at the National Assembly.
The National Assembly president warmly welcomed the visit of Lou Qinjian to Cambodia. She stressed that the current visit reflects the continued strengthening and expansion of the iron-clad friendship, solidarity and good cooperation between both countries that have existed for a long time, and this friendship is not a coincidence as the road was pioneered by the late king father Norodom Sihanouk and have become stronger and better leading to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
On that occasion, the National Assembly president thanked China for their significant support in Cambodian development including bridges, roads, expressways, airports, etc. Some of which have been completed and some are being implemented. The achievements have greatly contributed to the development of Cambodia and its economy as well as the living standards of the Cambodian people.
At the same time, the National Assembly president underscored that the friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and China is a model of friendship. This relationship is frank and trustworthy with mutual benefits and mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty and independence.
"To enhance the bilateral cooperation, I would like to see further progress in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), especially in strengthening the quality and integrity of the BRI projects and facilitating the continued growth of bilateral cooperation in other areas including industry, agriculture, investment and culture within the framework of “hexagonal diamond cooperation”, National Assembly president Khuon Sudary underlined.
Lou Qinjian congratulated Cambodia on the results of the general election and congratulated Khuon Sudary for being elected as the National Assembly president. He also emphasized that under the leadership of Khuon Sudary, Cambodia will achieve many other great achievements for the nation and the people.
He also informed the National Assembly president about the purpose of his current visit to Cambodia, which is to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and China, both in the legislative and executive frameworks, in accordance with the agreement among Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet and Chinese president Xi Jinping and Chinese president of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji.
In addition, the National Assembly president requested the NPC to actively and comprehensively enhance cooperation between both parliaments, as well as increase cooperation and exchange visits at all levels.
She also called on China to support and train technical staff of the General Secretariat so that the National Assembly can achieve its vision of transforming the National Assembly into a digital parliament and increase its work efficiency.
National Assembly president Khuon Sudary thanked China for always paying high attention to the health of Cambodian king Norodom Sihamoni and queen mother.
