Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 6 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet stated that the policy of decentralization and deconcentration is set to empower sub-national officials to have the right to make decision.

The premier spoke on Monday (Nov. 6) at an inauguration of the Ministry of Interior’s new administration building in Phnom Penh.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei stated that the seventh-mandate Royal Government must strive to implement the policy of decentralization and deconcentration in order to give the sub-national officials the authority to serve the public more effectively.

Samdech Hun Manet instructed all local authorities to grasp all the problems within their jurisdiction and and try to solve them as much as possible. The authority also needs to inform the citizens in advance about the cases.

In addition, Samdech Hun Sen thanked the capital-provincial authorities for their efforts to solve the problems that have arisen in their localities.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored that, "do not wait for order, and try to solve the problem to the best of your ability. Decentralization gives you the rights to solve not only disputes, but also the issue of providing administrative services. […] Each ministry and institution must also issue clear standard procedures.”

Meanwhile, Samdech Thipadei added that the delegation of power to the local level will reduce case congestion and improve work efficiency as seen during the fight against the COVID19 pandemic.
