Siem Reap (FN), Nov. 5 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet said that the world would be safer, more beautiful, and warmer if more women become leaders. Preventing women from getting opportunities for self-development is a tragic loss of human capital that is a strong driving force for society.
The premier spoke during the opening ceremony of the 7th Friend of Asia-Pacific WAGGGS General Assembly on Sunday morning (Nov. 5) in Siem Reap.
"The world would be safer, more beautiful, and warmer if more women become leaders. With the oppressing factors including traditional factors, economic factors and lack of awareness, millions of women around the world are deprived of opportunities for self-development and participation in socio-economic activities to reach their full potential. This is a tragic loss of human capital," the premier underscored.
In addition, Samdech Thipadei mentioned that the Royal Government has determined gender equality and empowerment of women and girls in various sectors as a priority in its policy agenda through the Pentagonal Strategy Phase I. The Royal Government will strengthen citizenship in a highly civilized society with morality, equity, and inclusion in which women are the core power.
"Increasing the proportion and involvement of women to the maximum in national institutions at all levels, enhancing employment opportunities and protection of women's labor rights, and the continued promotion of the role of women in decision-making at all levels," Samdech Thipadei added.
Samdech Thipadei also announced his support for the activities of the World Women's Scout Association, Women's Scout Association for the Asia-Pacific Region, and the Asia-Pacific Women's Scout Friends, especially the Girl Guides Association of Cambodia. Furthermore, premier Hun Manet also encouraged these spirits to further assist in educating and developing the capacity of morality, virtue, ethics, and energy for women to have a good future and become a necessary human resource to participate in building the nation.
