Siem Reap (FN), Nov. 4 – Cambodian king Norodom Sihamoni expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to Japan for the past 30 years and the ICC-Angkor-Sambor Prei Kuk Session and thanked Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Sofia University for contributing to the sustainable conservation and development of Cambodia's Angkor Wat and other historical sites.
The king spoke at the inauguration ceremony of the Angkor Wat Western Causeway on Saturday morning (Nov.4) in Siem Reap.
The king underscored that, “on this auspicious occasion, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Japan for its past 30 years as the co-chair the ICC-Angkor-Sambor Prei Kuk Technical Session with a high responsibility contributing to the success of ICC Angkor."
"I also would like to thank the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Sofia University, especially Yoshiaki Ishizawa, for his significant support in promoting conservation, research and training in Angkor to be sustainable and especially for the support until the completion of the restoration of the Angkor Wat western causeway and overall for the restoration of many other temples, accompanied by training of human resources in Cambodia, as well as disseminating Khmer history and culture to the world", the king underscored.
In this regard, the king also encouraged and supported the continued development of human resources in the field of conservation and research of Cambodia in all forms with the Japanese institutions, as well as with national and international partners in line with the vision of the Pentagonal Strategy of the seventh-mandate Royal Government, the spirit of the vision for the next ten years of the ICC-Angkor-Sambor Prei Kuk and in line with the reputation as one of the leading countries in Southeast Asia with Angkor as a UNESCO's largest archeological site for human resource training for cultural heritage.
King Sihamoni took the opportunity to express his gratitude once again to other countries of friend, national and international experts, ministries, institutions, territorial authorities, the armed forces and all the people who came together to preserve the outstanding value of Angkor Wat as a World Heritage Site.
Cambodian king expressed his hope that the spirit for Angkor Wat and this national culture would remain strong to allow the APSARA Authority and other Cambodian cultural institutions to continue to function well, fulfill their duties and achieve great success in conservation work and development of Angkor historical sites as well as other relevant cultural and natural heritage for the benefit of the country and the people of Cambodia.
