Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 28 – Cambodian prime minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated that the policy of the Royal Government in the seventh mandate to continue to help the people through providing capacity training in all areas, not just the garment sector.

The policy aims to follow the political line of the political party from the previous mandate, the premier spoke on Saturday (Oct. 28) during his meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Phnom Penh.

"The policy that we set out in this seventh mandate is to follow the political line of the political party from the previous mandate to continue to help our people, especially workers," the premier said. "They are major forces in the industry, not only in the garment industry, but also in agriculture, tourism, banking and other sectors.”

Samdech Thipadei added that this work aims to strengthen and motivate our people to have ownership along with their capability and participation in all socio-economic activities.

On the occasion, premier Hun Manet also recalled his time in the 1990s, when everything had to be imported to Cambodia, including drinks, clothes and other products. To date, Cambodia has the capacity to produce its own and export to foreign countries, and also has many infrastructures, including roads, buildings and so on.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has set a policy to increase the minimum wage of garment workers every year. The minimum wage of workers has increased from USD 40 per month in 1997 to USD 204 in 2024.
