Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 28 – Cambodian prime minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government has made great efforts to help stabilise market prices in order to alleviate the people’s livelihood.

The premier spoke on Saturday (Oct. 28) during his meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Phnom Penh.

On the occasion, the premier mentioned that due to the economic crisis, some countries in the world have raised the price of electricity, but for Cambodia, the Royal Government has stablised the price despites loss of millions of dollars in profits.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei hoped that the war between Israel and Hamas will not higher the price of goods, which will affect the people’s livelihood.

“For Cambodia, we admitted that the price has increased, but we have put effort into stabilizing it, especially in terms of electricity prices. Regarding this, the government is willing to lose profits to guarantee salaries and try to expand our energy sources from renewable energy, such as hydropower to solar, and so on in order to ensure the supply of electricity, otherwise we will depend solely on coal and natural gas, and those resources are imported, which is now affected by the [Russia-Ukraine] war,” the premier underlined.

Samdech Thipadei stated that the Royal Government led by the Cambodian People's Party is marching towards the right direction by participating and working tirelessly to help improve the lives of the people.

Due to the COVID19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, raw materials for electricity generation and imports of electricity from neighboring countries have been steadily increasing. For 2022, the Royal Government has lost nearly USD 200 million on electricity, while also tried to keep the price stable.
